Beginning of the Year Assessments
Beginning of the year assessments have been completed and a summary sheet will be sent home with your child’s results. Here are a few tips to make the most of your reading time with your child:
· Allow your child to read any sight words that come up in the book
· Ask them to point to where we start reading on each page
· Point to the period and discuss what it means
· Discuss the role of the Author and Illustrator
· Discuss the events of the story and the order they happened
· Discuss the characters in the story
As you can see, we work hard in Kindergarten! But in the end, it will all pay off. We are looking forward to setting the foundation for some great Little Readers!
We are off to a great start with homework! Please remember that homework is due and checked each Friday, unless otherwise noted. Because we check homework weekly, we do expect homework to be completed when a child is absent from school. If they are unable to complete homework due to illness, please write a note to let us know.
Information for our Kindergarten Field Trips has been sent home. As noted, we will visit the NC Zoo on November 4th, and the Durham Bulls game in the Spring. The combined cost of the trips is $25, due no later than October 14th. If you would like to pay with a check, please make the check out to Mount Energy Elementary and include a Driver’s License Number.
Friday, November 4th is our Zoo Field Trip. We will need a large number of chaperones for this trip. If you are available, please complete a Volunteer Background Check on the GCS website. Please remember that chaperones must provide their own transportation and purchase their ticket upon arriving to the zoo.
More information will be sent home at a later date. Thank you in advance for your support in making this trip safe and successful!
We are quickly approaching Halloween! Here at Mount Energy, students will be permitted to wear their Halloween Costumes to school on Monday, October 31st. No scary costumes, masks, or weapons are permitted!
To make this day fun, we will be completing some Halloween Learning Stations in our classroom. To make this successful, we are asking for donations of Halloween Candy. If you would like to donate candy, please do so no later than Thursday, October 27. Thank you!
